My name is Steve Keegan, and I'm the man behind Late Knights. Originally from Middlesbrough, I moved to London over 10 years ago to become the assistant manager of a pub in Greenwich. 7 Years later I found myself working for Fullers running and relaunching a number of pubs around London but I always wanted to do something a bit different.
Having spent a lot of time working with other London brewers, as well as a brewer from back home in Middlesbrough, I got really interested in the marketing side of brewing and worked with Matt at Truefitt in Middlesbrough in designing, brewing and marketing a beer in London. Within a few weeks Late Knights Brewing was conceived. I love brewing beer, and I know what I like in beer, and I thought if I could crack a pale ale and an IPA I'd have a shout at doing this properly. We ended up putting twice as many hops as a northern brewer would usually put in a beer, and before you know it we had our first 2 beers that actually quite worked... basically we had a good starting point.
We then moved on to some darker beers, as well as going back home to brew more IPA and pale ale. In quick succession we brought out our Hairy Dog Black IPA, Hop o The Morning Stout and Old Red Eyes Red ale.
Then Christmas came and I decided to finish my role with Fullers to work full time on Late Knights. With the help of some great friends we converted a 200m2 warehouse in Penge, SE London and we have now upped our production to 50 casks a week.
I never put my name to Late Knights as it was something I was doing in my spare time (hence the Late Nights) and I didn't really want to get into too much hot water with Fullers, as I would be working for a brewery but actually own my own! But now I can show my full pride for Late Knights, where we brew good beer, for good people at a good price (...with a few cheeky twists!)
